The East

The East of Madagascar is a kind of green world that is the delight of any naturalist and amateur of tropical escape, rainforests and coastal fringe of a few hundred kilometers of blond sand.

A dense humid forest, long beaches of golden sand and the Indian Ocean serve as a natural backdrop to the people of Madagascar's east coast. Here, time seems to have stopped and nonchalance cradles this long seafront. Most ethnic groups living on the east coast of the Big Island share the same lifestyle. Here, the villages are made of wooden boxes or plant material, most stand on stilts. The roofs are covered with leaves of the traveler's tree, the Ravinala, whose characteristic fan represents the emblem of Madagascar.

Betsimisaraka, Antemoro, Antesaka, Antanosy and Antambahoaka feed on rice, vegetables and fish. All lead a simple life, punctuated by the waves of the Indian Ocean that serves as a backdrop to this beautiful east coast.
